the punishment that was going to come for his sin. This punishment was very grievous; yet David never complained. Those who truly see their guilt before God will not complain about judgment. They know they deserve it. But those who fight the punishment and complain that it is much too severe are those who have not begun to repent (cp. Cain in Genesis 4:13). Often this attitude is exhibited at church by those who, because of moral trouble in the past, are limited in the church offices they can hold.
